Manager Business Development and Strategy

Delyth Samuel's business career includes key roles in textile manufacturing, a teaching role and R&D program management and is highly regarded for her competitive strategy, project and business planning expertise. Delyth has a business, product development and commercialisation role with Melbourne Consulting and Custom Programs at the University of Melbourne. Her role focuses on the design, development and delivery of commercial educational programs, assistance with structuring of commercial activities and the provision of consulting services to the University and external clients on specific projects.

Delyth has held the position of Chief Examiner for the CPA professional qualification capstone module, Global Strategy and Leadership for over 8 years and was a non-executive Board member of the International Fibre Centre for 7 years. She has authored several case studies and is co-author of The First XI: Winning Organisations in Australia (2nd edition published February 2007), a best-selling management book, which identifies the business practices of leading Australian organisations and how they have contributed to their long-term success. Delyth is also a member of the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) committee, commencing a 5 year term in July 2010.

Dr John Bates, BSc (Hons), Ph.D, MAICD

Business Development Manager

John Bates has a strong background in business development and in the commercial application of Science and Technology. He has extensive experience in the interface between universities and industry, combining his commercial career with undergraduate and post-graduate teaching in biological sciences. John has previously led global product development programs and worked with research institutions and consortia in the development of successful funding applications for major research and infrastructure initiatives.

Drawing on his experience with Ernst & Young, CSL Limited and the Australian Institute for Commercialisation, John has extensive experience in program design and development, consulting, strategic planning in the research environment and research management.

Gaye Pepper B.A, Dip Ed, GDSE

Business Development Manager

Gaye Pepper is an experienced Business Development Manager having partnered extensively with organisations across Australia and the Asia Pacific region. She has supported many of the region's corporations in the design and delivery of high quality, customised programs and project services.

Gaye was a principal consultant of the Asia Pacific arm of an international management consulting organisation where she delivered projects to a broad range of industries and trained local agents to deliver services to clients in the local language and culture. This work has assisted organisations to manage large scale change projects and lead business breakthrough teams.

Gaye has been responsible for the design of strategy during company restructure, merger and acquisition. This has included the introduction of best in class practice to executive management, in readiness for broad organisational change and the support of employees in times of change and career transition.

She is an accredited Master Facilitator in business alignment, problem solving teams and process improvement methodologies. Feedback on her approach is that she is able to design and deliver creative solutions to meet a range of client needs.

Dr Lynne Reeder M.Ed, Ph.D(Monash)

Business Development Consultant

Lynne Reeder has wide-ranging industry and curriculum development experience. Most recently as Executive Director, Australia21 an incorporated company undertaking multi-disciplinary research, where she worked with the Board of Directors on all corporate and research aspects of the company, including liaising with the Australian Institute of Company Directors on a restructure of the company to develop a more effective roll-out of its strategic plan.

Lynne has comprehensive experience in relationship and project management, having worked within universities in Canberra and Melbourne in both academic and administrative roles. Her extensive industry contacts have been built up through her work with a range of  companies such as PwC and Australian Unity, and peak bodies such as Engineers Australia, and the Committee for Economic Development of Australia. At Engineers Australia she worked with practitioners in the public and private sectors to review key issues in competition policy, commercialisation of research, including financial incentives such as the R&D tax concession, university/industry linkages, and privatisation of utilities.

Dr Stuart Ross B.Sc, M.Sc, Ph.D(Melb)

Senior Researcher & Director - Melbourne Criminological Research and Evaluation

Dr Ross is Director and Senior Researcher of the Melbourne Criminological Research and Evaluation which is a joint venture of Melbourne Consulting and Custom Programs and Department of Criminology of the University of Melbourne.

Previous positions head by Dr Ross include Director National Centre for Crime & Justice Statistics, Australian Bureau of Statistics, Senior Researcher / Acting Director, Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research; Department and Policy Adviser, Policy & Planning Unit, Office of Corrections.
