Course Introduction
The Graduate Diploma in Clinical Research requires completion of 100 points of coursework. 50 points
are achieved by completing the four subjects listed below.
- Study design in Clinical Research
- Responsibilities and Ethics of Clinical Research
- Managing Clinical Research Projects and Teams
- Basic Clinical Research Tools
A further 50 points are completed through selection of Masters level elective subjects. Most specialist
subjects are partnered with research groups and organisations which are leaders in their field, such as the NH&MRC Centres of Clinical Research Excellence. Current subjects are;
- Biomedical Research Management (25pts)
- Clinical Neuroscience Research: Methodology and Disease Applications (12.5 points)
- Clinical Neuroscience Research: Neuroimaging and Disease Applications (12.5 points)
- Good Clinical Practice (12.5pts)
- Clinical Research in Oncology (25pts)
Course Objectives
Graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Research will possess:
- A comprehensive understanding of the broad area of clinical research and issues associated with good clinical practice, ethics and regulations, as well as analytical and project and team management techniques.
- A comprehensive foundation in the methods and rationales of clinical research in a relevant clinical research speciality area.
- The ability to acquire knowledge in the in the area of clinical research
- High level analytic and problem solving skills using techniques acquired during the course
- A theoretical understanding of what needs to be done to apply this knowledge in the work environment
- Report writing skills in the general clinical research area and presentation skills in an area of relevant clinical speciality
- Sufficient preparatory knowledge for more detailed study in clinical research at the Masters level
Entry Requirements
Course Fee
Program Fees for 2012 are $2,350 per 12.5 point subject, making total costs as follows:
- The Professional Certificate - $4,700
- The Graduate Certificate - $9,400
- The Graduate Diploma - $18,800
The course fee includes

- Access to on-line databases required
- Morning, afternoon tea and lunch on each day of teaching
- One reference text as requested by the Subject Coordinator

Course Structure
To satisfy the requirements of the Graduate Diploma students will complete subjects accumulating a total of 100 points.
The following subjects should normally be completed prior to undertaking elective subjects:
- Study Design in Clinical Research (details to be announced shortly) 12.5 points
- Basic Clinical Research Tools 12.5 points
- Responsibilities and Ethics of Clinical Research 12.5 points
- Managing Clinical Research Projects and Teams 12.5 points
TOTAL 50 points
AND electives from the following list:
- Specialist Certificate in Biomedical Research Management 25 points
- Specialist Certificate in Clinical Research 25 points
- Specialist Certificate in Clinical Trials - Co-ordination 25 points
- Specialist Certificate in Clinical Trials - Monitoring 25 points
- Good Clinical Practice and Applications 12.5 points

Credit can be claimed for any of the subjects listed from within this suite of courses towards a higher award. For example successful completion of the Graduate Certificate will provide 50 points of credit towards the Graduate Diploma or Masters course.

An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in medicine, an allied health profession, nursing, science or social science which is recognised by the University as evidence of adequate preparation for the course plus documented evidence of at least the equivalent of one year's full-time relevant professional work experience in a medical, scientific or allied health environment and an explanation of why the course is to be undertaken.
All students will be required to meet the English Language requirements of the University.

Please note: this course does have a CRICOS Registration however we do not offer places to individual full time international students, therefore students wishing to enter the country and complete this course on a Student Visa should not apply.
