Course Introduction
The Master of Clinical Research (by coursework) requires completion of 150 points of coursework and research project/minor research thesis.
50 points are achieved by completing the four subjects listed below.

- Responsibilities and Ethics of Clinical Research
- Managing Clinical Research Projects and Teams
Day 3 & Day 4 of this subject are offered in partnership with the Association of Regulatory and Clinical Scientists and is available as a short course. - Basic Clinical Research Tools (formerly Biostatistics and Epidemiology)
A further 50 or 75 points are completed through selection of elective subjects. Currently available electives are:
- Biomedical Research Management (25 points)
- Clinical Neuroscience Research: Part 1 (12.5 points)
- Clinical Neuroscience Research: Part 2 (12.5 points)
- Good Clinical Practice (12.5 points)
- Clinical Oncology Research (25 points)
Note that new electives will be added and that not all subjects are offered every year.
Course Objectives
Graduates of the Masters in Clinical Research will possess:
- A comprehensive understanding of the broad area of clinical research and issues associated with good clinical practice, ethics and regulations, as well as analytical and project and team management techniques.
- A comprehensive foundation in the methods and rationales of clinical research in a relevant clinical speciality research area.
- The ability to acquire and create knowledge in the in the area of clinical research
- High level analytic and problem solving skills using techniques acquired during the course and independent critical thinking in their field of relevant clinical speciality
- The ability to apply theoretical knowledge in the independent design and implementation of a significant research project through to completion in a practical setting
- The ability to write scholarly papers and present their research findings in a peer environment, such as a specialist conference or seminar
Entry Requirements
An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in medicine, an allied health profession, nursing, science or social science which is recognised by the University as evidence of adequate preparation for the course, a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Research plus documented evidence of at least the equivalent of one year's full-time relevant professional work experience in a medical, scientific or allied health environment and an explanation of why the course is to be undertaken.
All students will be required to meet the English Language requirements of the University.

The Master of Clinical Research (by Research) requires completion of 50 points of coursework and a 100 point major research thesis.
The 50 points of coursework are achieved by completing some of the subjects listed below. Subjects should complement existing skills and a study plan must be agreed with the course coordinator.

Credit for previous studies within the School of Melbourne Custom Programs (formerly Melbourne Consulting and Custom Programs)
Credit can be claimed for any of the subjects listed from within this suite of courses towards a higher award. For example successful completion of the Graduate Certificate will provide 50 points of credit towards the Graduate Diploma or Masters course.
