Welcome to the University of Melbourne Master of Supply Chain Management!
This leading-edge program, new in 2010, is aimed at developing the next generation of supply chain leaders across and outside Australia. We have designed it in close collaboration with industry leaders and practitioners. Its content and processes are innovative in covering key strategic issues and opportunities faced by supply chain managers.

Course Overview
Course Structure and Delivery Mode
The program will be delivered in intensive one-week blocks in an executive format. This delivery mode enables participants from outside Melbourne and Victoria to fly in for each delivery and accommodates those who have regular interstate and overseas work commitments. There are eight subjects that each incorporate a supervised workplace based project, namely:

- MGMT90119 - Foundations of Supply Chain Management
- MGMT90120 - E-business and Supply Chain Information
- MGMT90121 - Decision Analysis and Project Management
- MGMT90122 - Supply Chain Analysis
- MGMT90123 - Procurement and Logistics
- MGMT90124 - Emerging Topics in Supply Chain Management
- MGMT90125 - Supply Chain Strategy
Credit Points:
12.5 points, a total of 100 points for all eight subjects.
Contact Time
Each subject comprises:
- 20 hours of classroom contact during an intensive week long session
- Assessment, including an assignment and a workplace field project. The workplace project typically requires that students have access to live data and that they are therefore sponsored by their employer.

Entry Requirements
Entry to the Master of Supply Chain Management is via the following academic and / or professional pathways:

Undergraduate honours degree or equivalent qualification; or

Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification, plus at least two years professional work experience; or
-
10 years professional experience which demonstrates the capacity to successfully undertake the course.
Note: letter from employer: All assessment is based on the participant's current role in the workplace. All applications must include a letter from their employer stating they will allow participants to use live data for assessment which will be treated commercial-in-confidence by the subject coordinator. Where the student is self-employed, the academic coordinator is available to work with the student to develop suitable projects.
The Master of Supply Chain Management does not have a CRICOS registration and as a result this course it is not available to full time international student on a Student Visa. Other International students (not on a Student Visa) are still welcome to apply, however they must meet the University of Melbourneās English Language Requirements. 2011 fees for the Masters program are A$3,290 per subject (GST exempt). Please note, fees are subject to an annual increase.

Award Option - Postgraduate Certificate in Supply Chain Management
Students have the option of enrolling in the Masters program or the Postgraduate Certificate program.
To satisfy the requirements of the Postgraduate Certificate in Supply Chain Management, students must successfully complete three core subjects, and one elective subjects, a total of 50 points.

Core Delivery Team
Professor Danny Samson
Danny Samson is Professor of Management at The University of Melbourne, and specialises in issues to do with operations and supply chain strategy and effectiveness. Professor Samson has worked extensively in the field of Operations and Supply Chain Management, as a researcher, consultant, board member, author, executive educator, and on government inquiries. He has written three books on various aspects of operations and supply chain management that are relevant to these programs. He regularly provides industry and executive seminars and has participated in a number of committees and industry bodies, including appointment as a member of the Australian Manufacturing Council and the Commonwealth Government Industry Task Force on Leadership and Management (Karpin Committee).
Professor Samson worked as an engineer at ICI Australia, before working at the Australian Graduate School of Management, the University of Illinois and Melbourne Business School as an academic. He founded and directed for ten years the Centre for Manufacturing Management at the University of Melbourne, was Head of the Department of Management in the Faculty of Economics and Commerce from 2002-4) and Director of the Foundation for Sustainable Economic Development.
Professor Samson has an honours degree in chemical engineering (UNSW) and a PhD in management from the Australian Graduate School of Management, and has published over seventy academic research articles in journals relating to the area of operations and supply chain management.
Associate Professor Damien Power
Dr Damien Power is Associate Professor of Operations Management in the Department of Management and Marketing at The University of Melbourne.
Damien holds a Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing Management, a Masters Degree (by research) in Business, and a PhD focusing on developing strategic models for effective business to business e-commerce implementation. He is a certified fellow of APICS at the level of CFPIM. Damien has research interests that cover strategic supply and procurement, supply chain management and business to business ecommerce, operations strategy and lean manufacturing systems.
Damien has run executive development programs, research projects and consulted for a number of Australian and international organisations including Petronas, GS1(formerly EAN) Australia, Standards Australia, and
Government departments at State and Federal level.
Damien also has extensive operations management
experience gained over the past 25 years across a range of industries including electronics, metering and food, with responsibilities ranging from project management, tender negotiation, new product localisation and development and facility management. Damien has also published over 80 refereed international journal articles and conference papers mainly in the area of supply chain management, and authored / co-edited three books.
Dr Prakash J. Singh
Dr Prakash J. Singh is a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Management and Marketing at the University of Melbourne. He has previously held academic positions at the Queensland University of Technology and the University of the South Pacific (Fiji). He obtained his PhD in Operations Management from the University of Melbourne, and Bachelor of Engineering (first class honours)/Bachelor of Business (with distinction) degrees from the Queensland University of Technology.
Prakash's current teaching, research and consulting interests are centred on operations and supply chain management topic areas. He has over ten years of teaching experience. His research is published widely in leading international journals. Two recent books are: Operations Management and What Really Works in Quality Management. Prakash has conducted research and acted as consultant to organisations in several industries including the automotive manufacturing, transport and logistics, biotechnology, business services and not-for profit sectors.
