Specialist Certificate in Social Policy (Social Inclusion)
Course Name
GC-SOCPOL Specialist Certificate in Social Policy (Social Inclusion)
Course Introduction
The Specialist Certificate in Social Policy (Social Inclusion) is a direct response to an understanding that there is a market for this content in government and the not- for-profit sector. It comprises 2 subjects which can be studied in any order: “Social Inclusion Policy and Practice” and “Social Inclusion and the Politics of Recognition”.
“Social Inclusion Policy and Practice” discusses how does a social inclusion framework affect social policy and practice? Across the not-for-profit, the public and the private sectors we are witnessing a new wave of discourse and action under this policy banner. But how is this way of thinking about poverty and disadvantage influencing policies and practices? This subject will enable students to consider the latest developments in the field in a way that is theoretically informed and advances of ‘best practice’.
“Social Inclusion and the Politics of Recognition” looks at the theories of social inclusion and exclusion focusing on notions of recognition, respect and redistribution. It will introduce and critically examine national and international policies and programs informed by a social inclusion agenda. The course will also cover strategies for evaluating social inclusion initiatives.
