Course Objectives
The Level 1 course has the prima facie purpose of ensuring that participants are competent to operate their equipment and take thermograms that are suitable for analysing, for whatever the required purpose. In practice, the course provides much more; including guidance on analysis of images, producing reports, and understanding the limitations and possibilities of thermography.
This extended level of the course is consistent with leading overseas courses and meets the requirements of common practice in Australia and New Zealand, where many Level 1 thermographers do not have a Level 2 qualified thermographer as their supervisor.
The content of the course includes the fundamentals of the internal operation of the equipment, the principles on which the equipment depends, basic concepts of heat and temperature, modes of heat transfer, what needs to be accounted for when taking a thermogram and how to determine the necessary parameters, practice at taking thermograms and discussion of thermograms with a view to improving images, basic NDT methods other than thermography.
