Infrared Thermography for Condition Monitoring: Level 2 Program
The University of Melbourne is an Accredited Qualifying Body (AQB) for the Australian Institute for Non-Destructive Testing (AINDT).
Course Introduction
Melbourne Consulting and Custom Programs at the University of Melbourne manages’ the delivery of industry accredited training in Infrared Thermography for Condition Monitoring Levels 1 and 2. The University also offers Infrared Thermographic training specific to the Pest Industry.
Training is presented by a consortium of industry experts, who have been delivering Level 1 and Level 2 training in Infrared Thermography for Condition Monitoring for over 10 years. Both the Level 1 and Level 2 programs meet the requirements of Australian Standards AS3998 and AS3669.
Participant’s who successfully complete the examination and practical components of each program, are eligible to apply directly to the Australian Institute for Non-Destructive Testing (AINDT) for certification. Email: aindt@immanet.com.au Web: http://www.aindt.com.au
Course Objectives
The Level 2 course has the prima facie purpose of assisting participants in learning how to write procedures that Level 1 thermographers can follow.
In addition, its purpose is to ensure that participants are competent to operate their equipment and take thermograms that are suitable for analysing, for whatever the required purpose; including guidance on analysis of images, producing reports, and understanding the limitations and possibilities of thermography.
The Level 2 course is run at a significantly higher level than the level 1 course, with more complex mathematical manipulation.

Entry Requirements
Prior successful completion of Level 1 training or equivalent. Applicants without a Level 1 qualification must adequately demonstrate previous work experience and educational background to the standard acceptable for entry into the Level 2 program.

Course Fee
The 2009 Course Fee is:
- AUD $2,050.00 (GST exempt)
Course Structure
The Level 2 course is a 120 hour delivery, consisting of a 40 hour teaching block, a 40 hour practical component, and the previous 40 hours Level 1 training.
The assessment requirements are greater than for Level 1. The Level 2 assessment requirements are:
- Pre-Assessment* consisting of a procedural practical assessment report (estimated time commitment: 40 hours); and a mathematical primer (estimated time commitment: 5 hours)
- Examination consisting of a General section; and a Specific section
- Report Presentation and Final Submission
* Pre-assessment must be submitted a minimum of two(2) weeks prior to the beginning of the course. Failure to submit all pre-assessment will result in the applicant being ineligible to attend the course.
Pre-assessment deatails will be emailed to eligible participants upon registration.

Articulation in to higher awards
Successful completion of Level 2 is one of the pre-requisites for Level 3. Details on Level 3 certification can be obtained directly from AINDT.
