Melbourne Consulting and Custom Programs

Short Course in Essential Counselling Skills in Cancer Care

Course Introduction and Objective

This one-day workshop aims to meet the needs of staff working in the cancer field who have no formal training in counselling skills, but whose daily work brings them into contact with situations which require a level of confidence in dealing with expressions of distress such as anxiety, anger and fear of dying.

Participants will learn about core communication techniques, observe demonstrations of interactions with patients and their families in a range of situations across the spectrum of care and have an opportunity to practise these skills themselves in a supportive facilitated role play.

Who Should Attend

The workshop will be of benefit to nurses, medical staff, radiation therapists, speech therapists, physiotherapists, dieticians and other allied health professionals in the cancer field and medical reception staff.
