ITC Infrared Thermography Level 1

The University Of Melbourne School Of Engineering has been involved in the delivery of quality infrared thermography training for over a decade. In January 2011 the School became an ITC Licensed Training Centre, authorised to deliver thermography training courses under a licensed training agreement with ITC Sweden.

The Infrared Training Center (ITC) at the University of Melbourne provides high-quality interactive thermography training from qualified international thermography instructors. The ITC offers IR training, certification, and recertification in all aspects of infrared thermography use. Currently Level 1 training is available in Australia with plans to introduce Level 2 training in the near future. Courses are available for both public or company registration.

The Level 1 ITC course is designed for beginners in thermography with some experience in camera handling and limited IR knowledge, who want to take their first step to become a professional thermographer and want to qualify as a Level 1 certified thermographer

Course Description

The course is delivered over 5 days using a combination of theoretical and practical sessions and working with images, sketches and simple diagrams to illustrate the theoretical aspects in a descriptive way.  The theory sections on heat and infrared will provide participants with the basic knowledge needed to use their IR camera in the field, and to recognise and interpret thermal patterns. Strong emphasis will be put on the IR measurement techniques and the influence of emissivity and reflectivity on the measurement results.  Participants will gain practical experience and learn how and when to use qualitative and quantitative thermography. A short introduction to inspection routines and reporting principles will finalise the theory and the preparation needed to create a short case study that will be presented to the class.

The course ends with an exam including multiple choice questions and thermogram analysis. Exams are marked in Sweden. All participants that pass the exam and meet all relevant requirements will receive a certificate stating their performance. Those achieving a pass mark of 75% or more are then eligible to sit the BINDT certification exam.

About the BINDT and Certification

The British Institute of NDT is an Accredited Certification Body offering personnel quality management systems assessment and certification for condition monitoring and non-destructive testing against criteria set out in International and European Standards through the PCN Certification Scheme.

SVT Engineering Consultants is an Accredited Training Organisation (ATO) and an Accredited Examination Body for BINDT certification in Australia and the Asia Pacific. Becoming a certified practitioner in compliance with ISO 18436 requires three steps.

  1. Successful completion of the ITC training and ITC training examination (75% or above)
  2. Applying to SVT to undertake an independent BINDT certification examination
  3. Gaining the minimum experience requirements for the qualification level

To apply for BINDT certification contact SVT at training@svt.com.au, (08) 9489 2000, or visit the SVT website at www.training.svt.com.au.
