Teaching treasurers new tools for success - A new course for financiers focuses on risk management. By Josh Jennings, The Age 29/04/06
Who Should Attend
The course is relevant to anyone in a finance function within their organisation, be it large or small, public or private sector. It is particularly relevant to accountants, finance managers, internal auditors, treasury officers, managers and senior management who need to supervise treasury functions.
However participants do not necessarily need to have a 'Treasury function' in their organisation to obtain benefits from this course (as the increased requirements of AASB139 and AASB7 affect most organisations).
Every organisation will benefit from ensuring they have representation in Treasury Management.
Course Content
The Treasury Management course will open the door to gaining a better understanding of the major facets of treasury and financial risk management.
Importantly it will assist participants to deal with the onerous requirements of AASB139 and AASB7 including the need to value financial instruments and the need to understand the complexity of accounting issues associated with AASB139 and AASB7. Minimal knowledge of treasury management and financial instruments is presumed.
The course will impart knowledge through step by step instruction as well as practical group exercises and case studies.
By undertaking this course participants will:
- Understand the market terminology and uses of financial instruments
- Gain an understanding of the principles of valuation of financial instruments
- Participate in group exercises which reinforce the theories taught but in a manner which is easy to absorb
- Network with other folk who work in finance and treasury and treasury functions and compare 'notes' and
- Contribute towards meeting the professional development requirements of various professional associations.
