Graduate Certificate in Clinical Dentistry

This course was formally known as the Melbourne OTC program (Melbourne Orientation Training Course for Overseas Dental Graduates)

CRICOS Code: 067106C

Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) and the Melbourne Dental School (MDS) established a partnership in 2009 to deliver the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Dentistry that assists overseas trained dentists in preparing for the theory and practical examinations conducted by the Australian Dental Council (ADC).

DHSV has decided to cease this current arrangement to enable us to focus on a reduced number of programs.  This will include the ongoing provision of an enhanced range of short courses and the implementation of an employment support program for International Dental Graduates to facilitate their employment in the public sector whilst completing the ADC exams.

Current Students:

The Univeristy of Melbourne will honor the commitment to students currently enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Dentistry and offer a range of options to facilitate the completion of the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Dentistry either in 2011, Semester 2 or 2012, Semester 1.

Students who have already been accepted into the program and have deferred, may wish to consider enrolling in the course to commence on 4th July 2011.  Alternatively, all remaining students will be eligible to enrol in 2012, Semester 1.  The course will not be taught after 2012, Semester 1.

Future Students:

The University of Melbourne will not be receiving any new applications for the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Dentistry.

From 2012, Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) will provide overseas trained dental graduates with training opportunities.  Please refer to the DHSV website http://www.dhsv.org.au/

Course Introduction:

The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Dentistry provides overseas trained dentists, whose qualifications are not immediately recognised in Australia, with knowledge and skills they require to prepare for dental practice in Australia. The course allows students to practice their dental skills under the guidance of experienced general and specialist Australian dentists.

Following completion of the Graduate Certificate, you will be required to independently apply for, undertake (and pass) the Australian Dental Council (ADC) examinations prior to being able to apply to one or more of the state Dental Practice Boards, allowing you to practice general dentistry in Australia.
