Electronic Crime, Digital Forensics, Security & Risk
New technologies often produce new forms of risk affecting business, government and the public. These risks include electronic crime which affects us all in a variety of ways. From electronic fraud to information theft, cyber attack to illegal images, money laundering to financial crime. Technology can be used to commit a crime, can contain evidence of a crime or be the target of a criminal act, by accident or design.
The eCrime area requires the development of skills in protection and security, analysis and investigation, law and ethics, risk assessment and management. These skills can be developed and enhanced through specialist, cross disciplinary training.
Melbourne Consulting and Custom Programs (MCCP) brings together skills from across the broad spectrum of the university and also specialist government and private enterprise experts where relevant. This combination of expertise provides an excellent platform for the development of knowledge transfer utilising the latest, practical thinking, processes and systems.
MCCP is constantly developing subjects, courses and seminars to enable the transfer of this knowledge to those who wish to better defend and protect the targets of electronic crime or investigate the criminal uses of technology. This can be delivered through subject based learning which is designed to fit in with busy lifestyles and work or customised to provide specific, niche knowledge for corporates or government departments.
Some of the areas of knowledge covered include:-
- Legal issues relevant to technology based investigations
- Computer forensics covering the capture, assessment & reporting of evidence
- Electronic fraud
- Understanding risk profiles
- Networks, the net and security
- Risk management & assessment
